Finding Financial Recovery After Head Injuries

St. Augustine, Florida Personal Injury Attorney

When an organ or body part is injured, there typically is swelling at the place of injury. When the brain is injured, there is very little room for swelling to occur. When spinal fluid or blood from a broken blood vessel begins to gather in the brain because of trauma, it can lead to a brain stem herniation, blood clots and stroke and permanent brain damage.

At The McLeod Firm, in St. Augustine, Florida, our injury attorneys understand the complexity of brain injury and closed head injury. We have years of experience helping injured people and their families find answers to their most important questions:

  • What happened to me?
  • Why did this happen?
  • Will I recover?

Access to Medical Specialists

While we focus our work on helping injured people get the financial award they are seeking, we also ensure our clients receive an accurate medical diagnosis and can get the medical treatment they need.

Most neurosurgeons are spine specialists, not brain specialists. Very few doctors actually work inside the brain. We work with nationally recognized brain experts to understand how your injury occurred and progressed and what may have been done to prevent the injury.

Traumatic brain injuries and closed head injuries change lives. Our goal, at The McLeod Firm, is to help you get back to life as usual. That’s what we’ve been doing since 1989. Causes of Head and Brain Injuries

Most head injuries are closed head injuries, also called traumatic brain injury. This occurs when the brain shifts inside the skull or is otherwise traumatized, which can happen with a fall, or in a car accident, truck accident, or motorcycle accident. Small and large blood vessels may be injured, causing bleeding in the brain; or the brain tissue itself may tear and swell.

Traumatic brain injury can also occur during or after an operation, if a surgical error causes a blood vessel to be injured or if brain swelling develops and the patient is not carefully monitored and quickly and effectively treated. We have successfully brought medical malpractice cases for brain injuries of this kind.

There are also head injuries that result from a skull fracture, which is most common in a motor vehicle accident. A skull fracture can be disfiguring and require facial reconstruction surgery and other serious treatment.

Whatever the cause of your head injury, our goal is to get you the full financial compensation you need so you can move forward with your life.
