One injured, one arrested in Cocoa Beach stolen car crash

One person was seriously injured and another arrested following an overnight traffic crash involving a stolen truck on State Road 520 in Cocoa Beach. The incident unfolded after midnight following reports of the vehicle being stolen from a Merritt Island location. Cocoa Beach police said the driver was heading eastbound on State Road 520 when he crashed into a palm tree near the Beachwave Beachwear shop at the State Road A1A intersection. Police were called out to the crash scene at about 4 a.m. on August 5, 2015. “The driver fled but he was caught later,” said Maj. Scott Rosenfeld, a spokesman for the Cocoa Beach Police Department. “There were two people in the vehicle which was stolen. A passenger was airlifted from the scene but she’s in stable condition.” Rosenfeld said the unidentified driver faces several charges, including driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. No ages were available for the driver or the passenger. Investigators were photographing and looking over the crash site that morning.
