Are We the Right Law Firm for You?

How to Choose the Right Attorney ...

The McLeod Firm understands that choosing a law firm is an important decision and that there are many options available. Regardless of whether you choose our firm or someone else, the suggestions below can help you find the firm that's right for you.

  • Take your time. While it can be helpful to have an attorney looking out for your interests sooner rather than later, it's important to make the right decision about who should handle your case. No advertisement or Web site can answer that question on its own.
  • How would you choose a friend? If you think about it like that, the process isn't as intimidating. Go to the law firms and attorneys you're considering in person. Find out whether you would actually work with your lawyer, or just with the firm's paralegals and support staff. Above all, ask yourself: "Am I comfortable with this person?" "Would I feel comfortable sharing important and sometimes very private details with this person?"
  • Do some homework. You can get a sense of what the firm's or attorney's reputation is in the legal community by talking to other attorneys you know, or by having friends talk to attorneys they know. You can sometimes find articles, publications, brief mentions and a lot of other information about a firm on the Internet as well.
  • Find out whether they actually take cases to trial or if they have a "settlement policy." Why is this important? It's important because if the defendant's insurance company knows that the chances of your lawyer being willing to take a case all the way to verdict are very slim — the insurer is not likely to offer a reasonable settlement.
